The basement must live!

As Grish said, we can't let this blog die. Unfortunately, all I do these days is work, go to the gym, and try not to spend money. This makes it really difficult to write anything of substance. Plus, DC is a city that is difficult not to spend money in.

For some entertainment I pose this question:

What movies have you seen this past month and what'd you think?

I did drop $10 and go see Surrogates cause it seemed somewhat interesting. It was in fact somewhat interesting, but they took the action movie route way too soon instead of letting the ethical debate flow. Killed pretty much any emotional connection to characters or potential connection. That was a bit of a bummer, but not bad if you go to rent it.

  1. I've seen three movies recently that bear mentioning.

Better than I remembered it. Bud White is probably my favorite fictional cop and watching him roll drunks and woman-beaters is an added bonus to an already radical movie.

The back of this movie made it seem like the greatest movie ever. They even used to the phrases "Funniest action-adventure/comedy ever" and "Once in a lifetime experience". Buce Willis plays a down-on-his-luck-fresh-out-of-jail-trying-to-play-it-straight cat burgalar who is hired or tricked into stealing three ancient Di Vinci artifacts for because each one holds a piece of a device that turns lead into gold. The plot is fucking ridiculous, the characters are all over the place, and the whole thing comes across as something I would've written in 5th grade except I had some sort of length requirement and had to throw in tons of extra shit that didn't make any sense. Let's just say this movie is a good time but you really gotta sit back and let its nonsense wash over you. Picking out faults will leave you mentally and physically exhausted. In fact, without too much of a spoiler, Hudson Hawk's partner amazingly re-appears at the end through some miracle/plot-device that even leaves the main chracter shrugging and saying "Yeah..I guess that's what happened." Bold.

I saw this at the Bangkok Film Festival a few weeks ago. It was pretty artsy (see 'Film Festival') but entertaining. It's about three children who've grown up and never left their house due to the overprotective love of their father. It was super weird but stuck with me for a while. I encourage those of you with an interest to check it out and maybe rent it. It's a Greek film so I have no idea how available it is. Depo?

Anyone else? Any good stuff coming out over there that I wouldn't see?

  4. Why would you want to offer a job to someone that started a blog and failed to keep writing? I'm one of the founders, but I don't give out information to Anonymous folks.
