Video Game Rant

I have a big problem with DLC and patches in the current video game climate. Some DLC can be a beautiful thing, worthy of our hard earned griblet. Call of Duty: World at War has some multiplayer maps coming, totally worth it. Left 4 Dead has FREE DLC headed our way, holy fucking shit worth it. Resident Evil 5 has some new multiplayer modes on the horizon, bullshit. This is the kind of thing that should be included in the retail package, not sold separately at a premium price. It bothers me that if a developer can't finish something on time they will gouge us later on. Developer laziness leads to constant patches after release, no doubt they shipped an incomplete game. Do it right!

Gamefly is worth the money and lackluster shipping rate. Gamefly has saved me from buying coveted games I ended up hating (MLB Front Office Manager, Street Fighter IV, GRID), and Gamefly has introduced me to some exceptional games I may have overlooked (Battlefield: Bad Company, Pure). If you game often, sign up now.

  1. This is one thing that really annoys me about console gaming. DLC is not seen as something to enhance games, but as a way to make more money by milking gamers. It'd be one thing if it were a full blown expansion pack, but charging for features that would get included at the same $60 price on a pc or released for free are ridiculous. Also, I think charging for multiplayer maps (a la halo) is bullshit as well. There should be a map maker tool that lets players create maps and download them. There's no reason that couldn't be done other than greed.

Also, speaking of sports games. Do yall think we'll reach a point any time soon when the core game will remain the same and we'll just download roster updates? I'm kinda tired of buying the same madden every year for a new roster, especially given that the graphics remain pretty much the same unless its a close up replay, which i just skip anyway. Thoughts?

  3. Sports games will never do that because it makes far too much sense. Madden has so many fans who buy Madden XX as their only game, they don't mind dropping $60 on a fresh coat of paint and updated rosters every year.

Re: DLC. Street Fighter IV has costume packs for 320 points ($4) each (three packs in all) that are UNLOCKABLE ON DISC. Anyone who pays for those can't complain about shitty DLC ever.

I blame Microsoft as much as devs. Yeah, they are lazy sometimes. But a lot of companies have said they've wanted to do their DLC free and couldn't because who doesn't love money?

And WombMuncher420 may be one of the five funniest things I've ever read.
